Skuldurge
Soul-Eater
Soul-eaters are the shadow to a Deity's light. Where Deities create, the Skuldurge destroy.
For every Deity that is born/created, the excess energy expelled by such powerful magic escapes and becomes corrupted. This is how the Skuldurge are created. The corrupted energy immediately starts to deteriorate, so it searches for a host soul to feed off of. The host soul must open itself for the corrupted energy to attach. The corruption seeks out souls that are clinging to their physical bodies (close to death), and offers them a second chance. The acceptance of that second chance allows the corruption to nestle into the host's soul. Because it is the energy of a Deity that created it, it also has a few Deity-like powers of its own, allowing it to heal the body of its host soul and truly giving them a second chance at life. It needs the energy of other souls to sustain itself, thus it is compelled to "eat" other souls. |

Stages
Infant
The infant stage of the soul-eater is barely noticeable. Infant soul-eaters can take the form of a simple "shadow" in the host's eyes. They are a very mild threat, and can easily be overpowered by the host's will. It will only act on extreme hunger with no mind of it's own. Possession of a host will put them in a "zombie-like" state.
Juvenile
Soul-eater of the juvenile stage are able to extend themselves from the host's body, resulting in tendrils of darkness to emanate from the host. These tendrils can reach out and grab any nearby souls. Most hosts will have a strong enough will to suppress it. At this stage, the soul-eater will have developed awareness of its surroundings. It will still only act on hunger.
Adult
Soul-eaters at this stage have a greater intelligence than the juvenile stage. Only hosts with strong wills can overpower them. The soul-eater has gained the ability to transform parts of the host's body or project itself in a certain way to create weapons (e.g. claws). Its intelligence allows it to recognize a worthy meal or a threat. It can also defend itself by creating a shield or escape by creating wings. At this stage, it is somewhat able to communicate with the host.
Elder
The elder stage is the final and most formidable form a soul-eater takes. Soul-eaters are rarely able to live long enough to make it to this state. Elder soul-eaters are extremely intelligent and powerful. Only hosts with an incredibly strong will can over power its possession. By this stage, a soul-eater has developed a personality and certain traits depending on the souls it has devoured and the willpower of its host. Elder soul-eaters can take on the full form of a beast, and depending on the personality it has developed, the beast form it takes will vary (bear, tiger, eagle, dragon, etc.). Elder soul-eaters will know the thoughts of their host and will often communicate with the host. They will also have acquired powers such as blending in with the shadows, or disappearing altogether. Elder soul-eaters are almost impossible to "kill."
Ancient
No soul-eater has been able to survive long enough to live to this stage except Reaper and Gaun.
